KTN and UKCPN will be hosting an online briefing event on 9th February 2021 for the upcoming ISCF Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging: Demonstrator Projects Round 2, Expression of Interest. Register here.

This briefing event will provide details on the scope and eligibility requirements for the upcoming UKRI competition – ISCF Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging: Demonstrator Projects Round 2, Expression of Interest.

In addition to scope and eligibility requirements, the KTN and SSPP team will talk through the questions that feature in this Expression of Interest (EoI) competition as well as the grant funding availability for the Full Stage competition.

Following this EoI, an invitation-only Full Stage competition will fund projects that offer commercial-scale demonstration of bold innovation that addresses widely known problems in relation to plastic packaging for consumer products – including first of a kind infrastructure or commercial trials of novel packaging technology or systems.

Projects must address one or more of the UK Plastics Pact targets. The benefits of the new approach must be quantified in terms of the Pact targets where possible. Any environmental impacts must be described and justified.

ISCF Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging (SSPP) Challenge: Demonstrator Projects Round 2 Update

Eligible Project Costs and Purchase of Capital Equipment

Relevant to:
Projects applying into the upcoming SSPP Demonstrator Projects Round 2 (Expression of Interest) competition, opening 08 February 2021.

Recent changes to rules regarding the funding of R&D projects with government grants may allow the opportunity to include the purchase of capital equipment as an Eligible Project Cost in large-scale commercial demonstration projects. Previously only capital usage was deemed eligible.

Therefore, for the EoI stage, if an applicant wants to include the purchase of relevant capital equipment as an Eligible Project Cost, it will not affect the eligibility of the application.

Pending the outcome of ongoing work, the SSPP Team will confirm any changes in a further update, in the competition brief (when published) and during the Briefing Event on Tuesday 09 February.
